October was a month that truly showcased the strength of the Rescue P.A.W.S. community. We encountered a range of unique medical challenges, but alongside these, we witnessed inspiring moments of recovery, resilience, and gratitude. Thanks to the unwavering support of our Rescue P.A.W.S. family, we were able to tackle these obstacles head-on, providing the life-saving care that so many animals desperately needed.
Our ongoing sterilization efforts made a significant impact, with 352 animals sterilized this month. Yet, October also brought in animals requiring intensive care. We carried out 2 amputations and 2 eye removals, helping creatures who had endured unimaginable suffering. These efforts were made possible by the compassion and generosity of our supporters. Below are just a few of the many animals who received hope and healing through our dedicated care.
Audi’s Remarkable Recovery
One of the most remarkable cases this month was Audi, a gentle giant who came to us after a violent encounter with a large monkey. Audi suffered deep lacerations to his head, mouth, and a torn ear, but his loving owners, a low-income family, couldn’t afford the necessary veterinary treatment. When Audi arrived at our clinic, we immediately began intensive care. Despite the severity of his injuries, Audi remained calm, never once showing distress as we cleaned his wounds and administered treatment. Over the following weeks, his healing was nothing short of remarkable. Although his ear may carry a permanent scar, Audi’s spirit remained unbroken. When we returned him to his family, he was once again the happy, tail-wagging dog they loved, much to their relief.
Mui’s Brave Recovery
Mui, a tiny Chihuahua, faced an uphill battle after a large dog attacked her, leaving her with a severe abdominal hernia. Her owners, devastated and unable to afford the surgery she urgently needed, turned to Rescue P.A.W.S. for help. We immediately scheduled her surgery, and despite her small size, Mui showed incredible bravery throughout the procedure. Remarkably, she recovered quickly and was discharged the same day. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Mui is now on the road to full recovery, with a bright future ahead of her.
Bao’s Fight for Survival
Bao, a two-week-old puppy, was rescued from the jungle, where she had become trapped in a vine. This led to a deep wound and a severe infection, leaving her barely clinging to life. When Bao arrived at our clinic, maggots had infested her wound, and the situation looked dire. Our team sprang into action, providing emergency care, and after several days of intensive treatment, we saw a glimmer of hope: Bao started drinking milk. With each passing day, she grew stronger. Although her journey is far from over, Bao’s recovery is a testament to the love and care she’s receiving. At the time of writing, she is happily napping in our volunteer coordinator’s lap after a big feed—an image of peace for a puppy who’s fought so hard to survive.
A highlight of October was the return of Natasha for her fifth visit to Rescue P.A.W.S. Natasha’s dedication to our mission goes far beyond her time at the shelter. Every year, she returns to share her passion and expertise, helping even the shyest animals build trust and confidence. She also sponsors one of our dogs, Sid, showing her ongoing commitment to supporting our work in every way she can.
In Natasha’s own words:
“Volunteering with Rescue Paws has been incredibly rewarding! I’ve returned five times and can’t wait for my next visit in October 2025. The work they do is so important, and being able to contribute gives me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. My most memorable moment recently was connecting with a shy dog, Honey Stubbs. Building her trust and seeing her blossom was humbling and reminded me how much of a difference we can make in these animals’ lives. That connection is something I’ll always cherish.” ❤️🐾
Natasha’s generosity and passion inspire us all. She’s a perfect example of how our volunteer program creates lasting impacts that extend far beyond the shelter. Volunteers like Natasha help us transform lives—one paw at a time.
Spay Event for Low-Income Families
October also marked the successful hosting of a spay event for low-income families, providing sterilization services to pets whose owners couldn’t otherwise afford them. For many of these families, this event was life-changing. It not only prevents unwanted litters but also helps reduce the number of stray animals in the community. One pet owner shared that this service allowed them to keep their beloved companion healthy and safe, without the worry of accidental pregnancies. This event not only brought peace of mind to these families, but it also contributed to long-term control of the stray population in the area.
Ongoing Care for Street Dog Packs
We continued our work with local street dog packs, completing a detailed survey of 26 packs that we regularly visit. Many of these packs are now fully sterilized. Although some dogs remain elusive, we’re committed to helping these animals, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see their faces light up when they receive food and care. Every day, we see how sterilization, vaccinations, and a safe environment improve their lives. We remain dedicated to ensuring that these street dogs continue to receive the care they deserve.
We’re excited to announce our new partnership with Charter International School, where students are hosting a Rescue P.A.W.S.-themed fair featuring games they’ve created themselves. This event not only raises awareness about animal welfare, but also allows students to engage directly with our mission in a creative and meaningful way. By involving young people, we’re fostering empathy and responsibility for animals, creating a compassionate generation that will continue to improve animal welfare in the future.
At the Myanmar temple, we hosted a festive Halloween party that brought joy to both the children and volunteers. In addition to the fun, we received generous book donations to expand the children’s library, supporting both their education and fostering empathy—a crucial component of our work with animals. Access to more books means the children can continue learning, and we are deeply grateful for this ongoing support.
After conducting surveys in four local Thai schools with 197 students aged 7–12, we are thrilled to report the success of our evidence-based 8-week educational program. The results have been inspiring. We saw a 37% increase in students who feel safer around dogs, and 73% of students can now identify dog emotions in both English and Thai. Additionally, 81% can name three or more things animals need to be happy. These results show the transformative power of education in building trust, fostering empathy, and creating a more compassionate future for Thailand’s animals. We are creating a report on the results and will share this soon.
Rescue P.A.W.S. continues to thrive because of the unwavering support from our global community. Volunteers, donors, and supporters from all corners of the world come together to fuel our mission. Their kindness and dedication not only help animals but also positively impact the communities we serve. Together, we’re creating a brighter future, one act of kindness at a time.
We are deeply grateful to the EXO Foundation for their generous donation towards the construction of our new facility. This contribution goes beyond financial support—it reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, social equity, and community development, values that resonate deeply with us. We encourage others to follow their lead in supporting our mission.
We are thrilled to share that EXO Foundation is not only sponsoring our new home but has also recognized the incredible impact of our work. Rescue P.A.W.S. has been nominated for the EXO Foundation Award for Sustainability and People in the NGO category!
One of the month’s greatest milestones came with Jack Sparrow’s pack. After months of relentless effort, we successfully captured the elusive mother dog, who had managed to avoid us for nearly a year. Not only has she been sterilized, but all the pups in the pack are now fully vaccinated, parasite-free, and sterilized. This is a huge success for both our team and the community, as it will help prevent future overpopulation and suffering. It’s a shining example of the persistence and dedication our team brings to every challenge we face.
