Welcome a new member to your family

Adopting from Overseas

Thank you so much for your interest in adopting an animal from Rescue PAWS. Adopting from Rescue PAWS is one of the most effective ways to support our work as it means we can create space to help another animal in need. It’s also very rewarding to give an animal the chance to feel the love and security they deserve.

Please select your country of residence below to find out more about the adoption process and transportation options.

Adopting an animal from Rescue PAWS is simple, and we will guide you through each step of the process. There are a number of stages to this process designed to help you find your perfect match. Please note that this may not be the dog you initially enquire about.

Rescue PAWS handles everything – we take care of all the paperwork, transportation and medical formalities. All you need to do is collect your new family member when he or she arrives! It’s a very rewarding and heartwarming experience to know that you have changed the world for a homeless animal and provided them with a new life of love and companionship.

Adopting your animal to the USA is a very simple process, and we take care of everything!

The first step is for your animal to have a blood sample taken here in Thailand, which is then sent to an approved lab to ensure your dog or cat has developed sufficient rabies antibodies. The price of this test is included in the overall travel cost. Assuming your animal passes the rabies titer test (RTT), they can then travel 45 days after the sample was taken, without undergoing quarantine. Rescue PAWS charges no adoption fee, and all of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Adopters simply need to cover the cost of the travel crate, titer test and flight(s).

There are two great options to get your new family member to the USA:

  1. As accompanied baggage with a flight volunteer. Rescue PAWS works very hard to find flight volunteers willing to bring animals back with them to the USA. We have a very high success rate in doing this to help keep the costs down for the adopter. We are fortunate to have many supporters offering to be flight volunteers.

When flight volunteers are available to bring your dog or cat to the USA, the cost is very reasonable for the distance flown. The final cost will depend on the size of the animal, the airline used and the destination the animal flies to. We will provide you with more information on cost as part of the adoption process. In some cases, it can take time to secure a flight volunteer. However, rest assured we’ll do all we can to make this happen as fast as possible. Our goal is for your new dog or cat to start their new life with you as soon as possible. When we receive your enquiry, we will be able to check the current availability of a flight volunteer to your destination.

2. Flying by manifested cargo. If you prefer, we can send your new family member to you as manifested cargo. Travelling as manifested cargo costs more but has the great advantage that your pet can travel to you quickly and fly at your convenience (i.e. a date and airport of your choosing). Your animal will travel in a comfortable travel crate (with access to water) in a climate-controlled part of the cargo hold. As above, the final cost will depend on the size of the animal, the airline used and the destination the animal flies to. We will provide you with a quote as part of the adoption process.

Adopting your animal to the UK is a simple process, and we take care of everything! Our experienced team will walk you through the easy steps.

There are two great options to get your new family member to the UK:

  1. As accompanied baggage. Animals are unable to travel directly into the UK as accompanied baggage at this time. Instead, they are flown to Amsterdam or Paris where they are then transported via land/sea to a meeting point in England. The final cost will depend on the size of the animal, the airline used and the destination the animal flies to. Our team will provide you with more information as part of the adoption process.

2. Flying by manifested cargo. Animals can only enter the UK as manifested cargo if flying direct. This method is expensive, but the advantage is that your dog will arrive sooner and on a date of your choice. Depending on your chosen airline, dogs can land at London Heathrow, Manchester and Edinburgh. If your dog travels as cargo, we will put you in touch with a third-party UK cargo clearance agent, with whom you will need to deal directly. You must pay the clearance agent directly.

You will need to collect your dog or cat from the animal reception area of the airport and allow four to five hours after arrival time before collecting from London Heathrow Airport (LHR). Check with your clearance agent for information about other airports. The animal will be classified as a commercial import if the adopter cannot prove they have been in Thailand within a few days of the animal’s arrival and an additional duty will be charged. As above, the final cost will depend on the size of the animal, the airline used and the destination the animal flies to.

Unfortunately, we are unable to adopt dogs to Canada at this time unless they are accompanied by their owner. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) measure prohibiting the entry of commercial dogs from countries at high-risk for dog rabies, implemented these restrictions on September 28, 2022. Cat’s remain unaffected by the ban.

Adopting your animal to Canada is a very simple process, and we will assist you with all of the necessary steps.

Dogs travelling with their owner can travel as accompanied baggage on the owners flight.
