Our Sweet girl Mina developed skin irritation from the sand at the beach and it became clear she would need a wheelchair to be able to join the daily beach walks. With the support of our amazing donors, we managed to fundraise the cost of her wheels in just two days! We have ordered Mina a custom made wheelchair from the USA, from the same company that built Fudge’s wheels. We will be sure to share Mia’s adventures on the beach as soon as her wheels arrive!

Miss Fox has returned to her pack and is very happy to be back with her friends. She is doing great on three legs and we will continue to monitor her. We are in contact with people who feed her and they now know they can contact us if they need any support or assistance.
Hu Ya aka Pinky is still with us. As his wound struggled to heal, we did some further testing and unfortunately he tested positive for heartworm. Heartworm is literally what it sounds; a worm living in the heart, lungs and arteries of a dog. The disease is spread by mosquitoes and something we have never seen at Rescue P.A.W.S. before. This can either be because Hu Ya is originally from Myanmar and brought the parasite with him, or it could be that heartworm is getting more prevalent in Thailand. The treatment is lengthy, so Hu Ya will be with us for months to come. The recovery is not without risks and Hu Ya will need to restrict his exercise and he will be closely monitored for any permanent damage to his lungs and heart.
The two pups who were abandoned at the temple last month are out of quarantine and thriving! Both have received their first two vaccines and will be sterilized soon. Once this is done, both will be available for adoption. With their sweet personalities, we hope to find them a home in no time. We’ve named them Pina and Colada
The vet team sterilized a total of 272 animals this month including two cancer patients that we have recently cured on top of helping countless more animals. Here are some of our patients from this month:
Rhino was reported to us by a local feeder. At first it appeared he had sustained an injury to his forehead, but unfortunately further testing revealed it was a cancerous tumor. As there isn’t much excess skin in that area, he is currently undergoing treatment to shrink the tumor for us to be able to surgically remove it in a few weeks time. We will keep you posted on his progress.
Unfortunately another hit by a car victim. A pup only about two months old. He suffered a broken pelvis, which unfortunately collapsed and we had no choice but to let him go. These instances are tough on the veterinary team, but also act as a start reminder about the importance of our work, especially sterilization to help prevent this pain from happening in the first place.
George arrived from a local golf course where he is the firm favorite of all visitors. George had a persistent ear infection, blood parasites and he also needed to be sterilized. His sweet personality quickly made him an instant star at Rescue P.A.W.S. George has since finished all his treatments and has returned to his golf course home. For community owned dogs like George, organizations like Rescue P.A.W.S. is often the only way to receive medical care. We are happy we could help this handsome boy.
Walter, who was found trapped at the bypass, has a calm gentleman personality. Also as he has short stubby legs, most of our other dogs tower over him. These things combined led to Walter being bullied by some of our bigger dogs so we made the decision to bring him into the clinic where his gentle personality has started shining. Walter loves nothing more than a good belly rub and has made firm friends with the other smaller dogs such as Lucky and Honey Stubb who also live at the clinic. With his unique looks we hope to find him a home soon where he can flourish even further.
A total of five animals found their forever homes in May! Snoopy and Ellis the cat flew all the way to the USA and Luna headed to Germany. All have settled in perfectly and were overjoyed to be reunited with their owner, all who they had met here at Rescue P.A.W.S. Ellis and Luna were adopted by our previous volunteers and Snoopy by a lovely couple who were holidaying in Thailand and already had two other rescue dogs from Thailand. Two pups, Hazelnut and Walnut found their home right here in Hua Hin.
Do you remember Lisa, who suffered from a broken jaw and was adopted to the UK by one of our lovely volunteers? Lisa continues to win hearts and we are very proud to announce that she recently won first place in “best rescue dog” category in a local dog event in the UK!
From an injured homeless pup to winning awards in the UK! A testament to the power of giving someone a second chance at life. You can watch Lisa’s story from here when she first arrived at Rescue P.A.W.S. below.
At the Myanmar temple, where we teach animal welfare and English every Wednesday, two pups had been dumped. This is unfortunately a very common practice in Thailand. We have been providing veterinary care and food for all the animals at the temple and in May the pups were old enough to be sterilized. Both pups recovered quickly and were warmly welcomed back by all the children at the temple.
As mentioned above, abandoning animals at temples is common practice. We work closely with temples to sterilize and provide preventative treatment and food for these cats and dogs.
We headed back to a temple, where we had previously sterilized all dogs with the help of DLD (Department of Livestock Development) and to our disappointment many new animals had been abandoned, many with young pups or pregnant females. A total of 18 dogs were captured, sterilized and vaccinated in one day. The team will head back in a few weeks time to get the remaining ones and the pups who were too young for surgery this time around. You can watch the team in actin here:
The vet team headed out on a two day rabies vaccine and parasite treatment mission in nearby packs and temples with a total of 200 animals vaccinated and parasite treated.
The education team has returned to the Myanmar temple following the school holidays. The new law requiring all men and women to enlist in the army, with the possibility of being drafted into the civil war, has prompted many individuals to take the daunting step of leaving their homes in search of a safer life in Thailand. Additionally, there has been a surge in attacks against civilians, resulting in many children being orphaned and brought to the temple for safety. Upon our arrival, the impact of these events was clear: 40 new children had arrived at the temple. We remain committed to supporting these children by providing education and supplies, aiming to restore a sense of normalcy and offer them a chance at a brighter future.
One of our previous veterinary volunteers Leslie, donated a multiparameter monitor for the vet team. This means we can monitor our patients more closely and keep them safer during surgery. We are incredibly grateful for this much needed donation. Inaddition Leslie has been helping the team with tricky veterinary cases, with 30 years of experience she has been invaluable support for our veterinary team.
One of the Myanmar refugee villages we support recently suffered a devastating fire, which destroyed two buildings. In response, we reached out to the Hua Hin community and were overwhelmed by the generous donations we received. A truck full of supplies was sent to the victims of the fire, aiding them in recovering from the accident that destroyed most of their belongings.
Our friends over at Cuddle Buddies have created a wonderful video of Buddy’s journey with Rescue P.A.W.S. From a sick little pup who couldn’t walk to the giant cuddle monster that we know and love today, Cuddle Buddies have captured Buddy’s goofy personality perfectly!
