Gretel and her brother were abandoned on the streets when they were very young. Gretel missed out on the peak time for socialisation and because of this, can be unsure in new environments and around new people. She is an incredibly loyal dog who thrives off of routine. She can be independent and yet still have time to snuggle on down for a cuddle. She likes to play the big sister of the group and on the beach walks, and is an expert in crowd control when all the dogs are off leash. She walks very nicely on the lead and has very good recall. Her basic command skills are very good, but she will requite some stranger and socialising training. She likes things her way and her things are her things and she doesn’t really like to share. With that being said, she would do well in a home with an existing male dog.
Her perfect family would give her time to settle into their routine and get to know them. She is nervous to begin with but as soon as she finds her paws, she is the most loving dog you can hope for. She would make a wonderful pet for a family that are active and love the outdoors but don’t have too many people coming and going from the house. All she asks for is a quiet spot where she can lie in the sun between walks.
